Fish oil-Eduardo Ferriolli refers to a specific high-dose omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) supplement regimen investigated by Eduardo Ferriolli and colleagues at the University of São Paulo. The supplement provides a daily dose of 4 grams of fish oil, containing 1,760 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 880 mg of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). It was studied in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (NCT3462771) to evaluate its efficacy in enhancing the adaptive muscular response to resistance exercise training in sarcopenic elderly women. The mechanism of action involves the modulation of the mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) signaling pathway and insulin signaling, which are critical for muscle protein synthesis and the reduction of age-related muscle loss. Results from the study indicated that this fish oil supplementation significantly potentiated muscle strength and physical performance when combined with resistance training.
