Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fixalpost is a preservative-free, fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution containing latanoprost (50 µg/mL) and timolol maleate (5 mg/mL). Developed by Laboratoires Théa, it is indicated for the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) in adult patients with primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to topical beta-blockers or prostaglandin analogues alone. Latanoprost, a prostaglandin F2-alpha receptor agonist, increases aqueous humor outflow by stimulating the prostaglandin F2-alpha receptor, while timolol, a non-selective beta-adrenergic antagonist, reduces aqueous humor production. As the first preservative-free formulation of this combination, Fixalpost is specifically designed to minimize ocular surface toxicity and improve tolerability in patients sensitive to preservatives like benzalkonium chloride (BAK), which are commonly found in multi-dose ophthalmic preparations.
