Flavin mononucleotide (FMN), also known as riboflavin 5′‑phosphate, is a biomolecule derived from the phosphorylation of vitamin B2 (riboflavin) by the enzyme riboflavin kinase. It serves as a coenzyme and prosthetic group for various oxidoreductases, including NADH dehydrogenase, and acts as a cofactor in biological blue-light photoreceptors. FMN participates in reversible redox reactions involving one or two electron transfers and is more soluble than its precursor, riboflavin. Clinically, it is used to restore or supplement vitamin B2 levels in conditions such as anemia, migraine, alcoholism, and hyperhomocysteinemia. In addition to its metabolic roles in humans and other organisms, FMN is also used as an orange-red food color additive (E101a)[1][3][4][5].
