Flavobac

Flavobac is a plant-derived bioflavonoid antimicrobial formulation developed from bitter orange extract and associated with Citrox Biosciences and commercial oral care products from Oraldent. Its principal constituents are the citrus flavanones naringin and neohesperidin, formulated as a water-soluble botanical mixture for topical mucosal use. Mechanistically, the bioflavonoids are reported to bind bacterial cell walls and extracellular or soluble proteins through hydrogen bonding, while also disrupting microbial membranes, cell wall polypeptides, and membrane-bound enzymes, supporting broad antibacterial and antiviral barrier activity. The product has been commercialized in oral care and upper-respiratory hygiene formats including mouthwash, toothpaste, sore-throat spray, and oral or nasal spray products intended for prevention or reduction of microbial burden, including activity claims against viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 and influenza.
