Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flavonoid C is a natural product, likely one of the four similarly structured flavonoids extracted from Lomatogonium rotatum Fries ex Nym. These flavonoids have demonstrated hypolipidemic and obesity-inhibiting effects. Studies in male Wistar rats fed a high-fructose diet showed that administration of these flavonoids reduced serum levels of fasting blood glucose, feeding blood glucose, leptin, triglycerides, and cholesterol, while increasing high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C). The mechanism of action involves the downregulation of fatty acid synthase (FAS) mRNA and protein expression, and the enhancement of threonine-172 phosphorylation of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in the liver. These actions are similar to those of epigallocatechin gallate, which inhibits FAS activity by stimulating AMPK.
