Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flavoxate is a synthetic anticholinergic and antispasmodic agent primarily used for the symptomatic relief of various urinary tract conditions. It works by directly relaxing the smooth muscle in the urinary tract, acting as a muscarinic antagonist. Additionally, it exhibits calcium channel antagonism and phosphodiesterase inhibition. This multifaceted mechanism helps alleviate symptoms such as dysuria, urgency, nocturia, suprapubic pain, urinary frequency, and incontinence associated with conditions like overactive bladder, cystitis, prostatitis, urethritis, and urethrocystitis/urethrotrigonitis. Flavoxate is administered orally as a tablet.
