Overview

Flecainide acetate inhalation solution is a novel formulation of the antiarrhythmic drug flecainide designed for rapid delivery via oral (pulmonary) inhalation using a nebulizer. It is being developed primarily for the acute conversion of recent-onset symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) to normal sinus rhythm. The mechanism of action involves blockade of cardiac sodium channels (Class IC antiarrhythmic), which slows conduction in cardiac tissue and restores normal heart rhythm. Inhaled administration allows for rapid onset and lower systemic exposure compared to oral or intravenous routes, potentially minimizing side effects while providing quick symptom relief. Clinical studies have shown that this formulation can convert AF to sinus rhythm within minutes in a significant proportion of patients with recent-onset AF[1][2][3][5][6][8][9]. The product is being developed by InCarda Therapeutics.
