Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FLEX 10 (often marketed as Flex 10-10) is a synthetic pyrethroid-based insecticide and ectoparasiticide formulation containing 10% permethrin and 10% piperonyl butoxide (PBO). Permethrin acts as a neurotoxin by delaying the closure of voltage-gated sodium channels in the nerve membranes of insects, leading to prolonged depolarization, hyperexcitation, and eventual paralysis. Piperonyl butoxide serves as a synergist by inhibiting cytochrome P450 enzymes (specifically microsomal monooxygenases) in the insect, which prevents the metabolic detoxification of permethrin and significantly enhances its insecticidal potency. The product is primarily utilized in veterinary medicine and environmental pest control for the management of mosquitoes, flies, ticks, and mites on livestock (such as cattle, horses, and poultry) and within their premises. It is designed for use in automatic misting systems or as a spray application.
