Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Floctafenine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the anthranilic acid derivative class. It is used for the short-term treatment of mild to moderate acute pain and acts as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis through reversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), similar to aspirin and other NSAIDs. This results in reduced production of prostaglandins that mediate pain, inflammation, and fever[1][2][3][4][5]. Floctafenine does not treat underlying disease but provides symptomatic relief while being taken.
