Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flora-Q is an over-the-counter probiotic dietary supplement manufactured by PharmaDerm, a division of Fougera Pharmaceuticals Inc. [5, 6, 7]. It is a biologic product that contains a proprietary blend of live bacteria, including Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus paracasei, and Streptococcus thermophilus [5, 6]. Each capsule contains a minimum of 8 billion colony-forming units (CFU) at the time of manufacture, with a guaranteed potency of at least 4 billion CFU at expiration [5, 6, 7]. Flora-Q works by introducing beneficial bacteria to the gastrointestinal tract to help restore and maintain a healthy gut microbiome [4, 5]. It does not have a specific biological target in the traditional sense. It is used to support gastrointestinal health and has also been used for various conditions such as diarrhea (including antibiotic-associated and traveler's diarrhea), irritable bowel syndrome, and oral thrush.
