florantyrone

Florantyrone is a synthetic small molecule derivative of fluoranthene that functions as a hydrocholeretic agent. Developed by G.D. Searle & Co. and marketed under the brand name Zanchol, it was primarily indicated for the treatment of biliary tract disorders such as chronic cholecystitis and post-cholecystectomy syndrome. Unlike traditional choleretics that increase the secretion of bile salts, florantyrone stimulates the production of a high volume of watery bile with low solid content. This action helps to flush the biliary ducts and prevent bile stasis. The drug is currently considered obsolete and has been discontinued from most markets.
