Overview
Florapronol (also known as F-18 florapronol or Alzavue) is a small molecule diagnostic radiopharmaceutical used as a beta-amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) tracer. It was developed in Korea and is primarily indicated for imaging beta-amyloid plaques in the brain to aid in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. Florapronol binds to beta amyloid A4 protein (APP), allowing visualization of amyloid plaque burden via PET scanning. The drug received regulatory approval in Korea and is administered intravenously at a typical dose of 370 MBq (10 mCi). Its mechanism involves modulation/binding to APP, serving as an imaging agent rather than having therapeutic effects[1][2][4][5].
