Overview

Florquinitau (MK-6240) is an F18-labeled small molecule radiopharmaceutical designed for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of tau protein aggregates, specifically neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), in the brain. It is being developed as a diagnostic tool for Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment. The tracer exhibits high affinity and selectivity for tau protein over amyloid-beta, allowing for the non-invasive visualization and quantification of tau pathology, which correlates closely with cognitive decline. Sinotau Pharmaceutical Group holds the rights in China, while Lantheus Holdings (through its acquisition of Cerveau Technologies) manages global development. In clinical studies, florquinitau has demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity in detecting tau deposition, with an NDA submission planned for the third quarter of 2025.
