Overview
**Flortanidazole F-18** is a positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer designed for imaging tumor hypoxia. It is a fluorine-18-labeled azole derivative that selectively accumulates in hypoxic cells due to nitroimidazole reduction under low oxygen conditions, enabling non-invasive visualization of hypoxic regions in tumors. Primarily investigated in preclinical models of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), it demonstrated utility as a prognostic and predictive biomarker, showing reductions in tumor-to-background ratios after metformin treatment, which correlated with improved radiotherapy outcomes. Its development was led by Threshold Pharmaceuticals and later Siemens Healthineers, with applications in oncology for assessing treatment response and patient stratification.[1][3][5][7][11]
