Flortaucipir F-18 (Tauvid) is a radioactive small-molecule PET (positron emission tomography) imaging agent developed by Avid Radiopharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Eli Lilly. It is a fluorine-18-labeled compound that selectively binds to paired helical filament (PHF)-tau protein aggregates in the brain, which are a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies. As the first FDA-approved tau PET tracer, it is indicated for imaging tau pathology in adult patients with cognitive impairment who are being evaluated for Alzheimer's disease. The agent allows for the visualization of the distribution and density of tau neurofibrillary tangles, aiding in clinical diagnosis and staging of neurodegenerative conditions.
