Overview

Florzolotau is a second-generation tau protein positron emission tomography (PET) tracer developed for the in vivo imaging of tau pathology in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies. It is a small molecule radiopharmaceutical that binds with high affinity to aggregated tau fibrils, enabling visualization and quantification of tau deposition in the brain using PET imaging. Florzolotau demonstrates less non-specific off-target binding compared to earlier tracers and can differentiate between Alzheimer’s disease and non-Alzheimer-type tau pathologies. The compound was originally discovered at the Institutes for Quantum Life and Medical Science at the National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology, Chiba, Japan, with further development by APRINOIA Therapeutics. Its primary clinical use is as a diagnostic agent to support differential diagnosis among various neurodegenerative disorders characterized by abnormal tau accumulation[1][3][5][7].
