Overview

Flos Caryophylli, commonly known as clove, consists of the dried flower buds of *Syzygium aromaticum* (L.) Merr. & L.M. Perry. It is a prominent medicinal herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it is classified as a 'warming the interior' agent used to treat digestive disorders, nausea, and pain. The primary bioactive constituent is eugenol, which provides significant antioxidant, antimicrobial, and analgesic properties. Research has demonstrated its potential as a neuraminidase inhibitor for anti-influenza therapy and its efficacy in treating chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), diarrhea, and inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis when used in combination therapies or traditional formulations.
