Overview
Flotegatide is a cyclic tripeptide containing an arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (R-G-D) motif. Its ^18F-radiolabeled form is used as a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer that selectively binds to integrin alpha-V/beta-3, a protein expressed by macrophages and neovascular endothelium. This allows for the imaging of processes such as inflammation, angiogenesis, and neovascularization in diseases like cancer and atherosclerosis. Flotegatide was developed primarily as a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical for visualizing tumors and vascular disease but has been discontinued in clinical development[1][3][4][5][7].
