Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flotillin-1 palmitoylation inhibiting peptide is a competitive peptide designed to block the S-palmitoylation of flotillin-1, a post-translational modification essential for its protein stability and trafficking. Developed by researchers at the University of Texas at Austin, the peptide is fused to a cell-penetrating peptide sequence to facilitate cellular uptake. By competitively inhibiting the palmitoylation of flotillin-1 (primarily mediated by the palmitoyl acyltransferase zDHHC5), the peptide promotes the proteasomal degradation of flotillin-1. This disruption subsequently attenuates tumor growth and lung metastasis in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) models, highlighting its potential as a targeted therapeutic strategy for aggressive, metastatic cancers.
