This is a combination of two recombinant cytokines—Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 ligand (FLT3L) and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). Both are hematopoietic growth factors that act synergistically to expand and mobilize dendritic cells (DCs) and other myeloid progenitors. FLT3L primarily stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of early hematopoietic progenitor cells, especially those giving rise to conventional DCs and plasmacytoid DCs. GM-CSF promotes the survival, proliferation, and differentiation of myeloid lineage cells including monocytes/macrophages and DCs. When used together in preclinical models or as genetic adjuvants in DNA vaccines, this combination enhances the maturation, antigen-presenting capacity, viability, and function of dendritic cell subsets more effectively than either agent alone. The combination has been studied for its ability to improve immune responses in cancer immunotherapy settings (as a vaccine adjuvant), for mobilizing peripheral blood progenitor cells for transplantation purposes, as well as for enhancing anti-tumor immunity[1][2][5][8].
