Overview

FLTX3 is a novel multifunctional fluorescent derivative of endoxifen, the active metabolite of tamoxifen. It is synthesized by the covalent attachment of the small fluorophore nitrobenzoxadiazole (NBD) to the basic side chain of endoxifen. FLTX3 functions as a target-directed fluorescent probe for the cellular labeling of estrogen receptors (ER) in breast cancer cell lines and uterine tissues. Beyond its role as a diagnostic marker, FLTX3 exhibits an intrinsic photodynamic effect and optical gain behavior that leads to random laser (RL) emission when light is scattered within cell cultures. Research has demonstrated that FLTX3-induced RL signals can distinguish between tamoxifen-sensitive and tamoxifen-resistant MCF7 breast cancer cells, suggesting its potential as a diagnostic tool for identifying treatment resistance in metastatic ER+ breast cancer.
