Overview
Sanofi's flu H5 egg pandemic vaccine is an investigational, egg-based inactivated influenza A (H5N8) vaccine developed for pandemic preparedness. The vaccine contains the hemagglutinin (HA) surface glycoprotein of the H5N8 subtype, produced using traditional egg-based manufacturing processes. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials (NCT05949502) to assess safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults. The study investigates multiple dose levels of the H5N8 antigen administered with or without Novavax's saponin-based Matrix-M adjuvant. The primary mechanism of action is the induction of neutralizing and hemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies against the H5 HA protein to prevent infection by H5 subtype avian influenza viruses.
