FLU-v is a synthetic peptide-based universal influenza vaccine candidate developed by Imutex, a joint venture between SEEK Group (ConserV Bioscience) and hVIVO. The vaccine is designed to provide broad, long-lasting protection against both influenza A and B strains by inducing T-cell-mediated and humoral immune responses. Unlike traditional seasonal flu vaccines that target highly mutable surface glycoproteins (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase), FLU-v consists of an equimolar mixture of four synthetic peptides derived from highly conserved internal viral proteins: matrix protein 1 (M1), matrix protein 2 (M2), and nucleoproteins from influenza A and B (NP-A and NP-B). It is formulated as a water-in-oil emulsion with the adjuvant Montanide ISA-51 and administered subcutaneously. FLU-v has completed Phase IIb clinical trials, demonstrating safety, immunogenicity, and a reduction in mild-to-moderate influenza disease.
