Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flucavex is a fixed-dose combination of paracetamol (acetaminophen), pheniramine maleate, and ascorbic acid (vitamin C), formulated as granules for oral solution. Developed by Pharma Bavaria International, it is approved for the symptomatic treatment of common colds, rhinitis, rhinopharyngitis, and flu-like symptoms in adults and adolescents over 15 years of age. Paracetamol acts as an analgesic and antipyretic by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system. Pheniramine maleate is a first-generation antihistamine that acts as an inverse agonist at the histamine H1 receptor, reducing symptoms such as rhinorrhea, sneezing, and watery eyes. Ascorbic acid is included to help meet the increased physiological demand for vitamin C during infections. Flucavex is administered orally after dissolving the granules in water.
