Flucelvax Quadrivalent is a cell-culture-derived, inactivated quadrivalent influenza vaccine developed by CSL Seqirus. Unlike traditional influenza vaccines produced in embryonated chicken eggs, Flucelvax is manufactured using Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells. This process is designed to prevent egg-adaptive mutations, which can alter the antigenic properties of the vaccine strains, particularly the H3N2 component, potentially leading to improved vaccine effectiveness. The vaccine was the subject of the RIVER study (NCT03724097) led by the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, which compared its immunogenicity to egg-based and recombinant vaccines in adults.
