Flucelvax Tetra is a quadrivalent, inactivated influenza vaccine produced using mammalian cell culture technology (MDCK cells) rather than traditional chicken eggs. It contains surface antigens (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase) from four influenza virus strains: two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). By using cell-based manufacturing, the vaccine avoids egg-adaptive mutations that can occur in egg-based production, potentially offering a better antigenic match to circulating seasonal strains. It is developed by CSL Seqirus and indicated for the prevention of influenza caused by the specific strains contained in the vaccine for individuals aged 6 months and older.
