Overview

Flucelvax Trivalent (TIVc) is a cell-derived, inactivated, trivalent seasonal influenza vaccine developed by Seqirus. Unlike traditional influenza vaccines produced in embryonated chicken eggs, TIVc is manufactured using mammalian cell culture technology (Madin-Darby Canine Kidney [MDCK] cells), making it an egg-free alternative. The vaccine contains purified surface antigens (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase) from three influenza virus strains: two Influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and one Influenza B lineage, as recommended by the World Health Organization for each season. The vaccine works by inducing the production of antibodies against the viral hemagglutinin, thereby providing active immunity against seasonal influenza. It is indicated for use in adults and children from 6 months of age. While it was a significant advancement in cell-based vaccine technology, it has largely been superseded by quadrivalent formulations in major markets.
