fludrocortisone

Fludrocortisone is a synthetic corticosteroid with potent mineralocorticoid properties and moderate glucocorticoid activity. It is primarily used as partial replacement therapy for primary or secondary adrenocortical insufficiency (such as Addison's disease) and for the treatment of salt-losing adrenogenital syndrome (congenital adrenal hyperplasia). Fludrocortisone acts mainly by mimicking the effects of aldosterone, increasing sodium reabsorption and potassium excretion in the kidneys, thereby helping to regulate plasma electrolyte composition and blood pressure. It is administered orally, most commonly in its acetate form. Fludrocortisone may also be used off-label for conditions such as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), cerebral salt-wasting syndrome, and as part of diagnostic testing for Conn’s syndrome[1][4][6].
