Overview

Flufirvitide (also known as Flufirvitide-3) is a synthetic peptide antiviral drug candidate developed for the treatment of influenza. It acts as an inhibitor of hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN), a key glycoprotein on the surface of influenza viruses that is essential for viral entry and release from host cells. By inhibiting HN, flufirvitide disrupts the virus's ability to infect new cells and propagate within the respiratory tract. The drug has been investigated primarily in nasal spray formulations and has reached Phase 2 clinical development for human influenza[5][2].
