Overview

Fluindione is a small molecule oral anticoagulant belonging to the class of vitamin K antagonists (VKAs). It acts by inhibiting the vitamin K cycle, thereby reducing the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors in the liver, which are essential for blood coagulation. This mechanism helps prevent blood clots from forming or growing larger. Fluindione is primarily used for the treatment and prevention of venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, atrial fibrillation (to reduce stroke risk), and other thromboembolic disorders requiring long-term anticoagulation. It is most widely used in France as an alternative to warfarin and is marketed under the brand name Previscan[1][2][3][4][5][7].
