FluMos-v1 is an investigational mosaic quadrivalent influenza nanoparticle vaccine developed by the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). It is designed as a potential "universal" influenza vaccine that can provide broader protection against multiple influenza virus strains. The vaccine is composed of engineered pentameric promoters based on C. albicans lumazine synthase assembled with 20 trimeric promoters displaying hemagglutinin (HA) ectodomains from four influenza strains: A/Idaho/07/2018, A/Perth/1008/2019, B/Colorado/06/2017, and B/Phuket/3073/2013. Unlike conventional flu vaccines, FluMos-v1 displays multiple copies of each of the four HA types, with 20 HA epitopes arrayed in repeating patterns on nanoparticle scaffolds, designed to send a strong signal to the immune system and prompt a robust antibody response.
