Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flunarest is a branded generic ophthalmic suspension containing fluorometholone, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid. Developed and marketed by Senses Pharmaceuticals, it is indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe. Fluorometholone functions as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor, which modulates gene expression to inhibit the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. In clinical practice, fluorometholone is often categorized as a "soft" steroid because it typically has a lower propensity to increase intraocular pressure compared to more potent corticosteroids like dexamethasone, making it a preferred option for certain ocular inflammatory conditions.
