Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ZEROWAVE-D (also marketed as ZEROWAVE-D TAB) is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product developed by Medicox Lifescience. It is formulated as an oral tablet containing flunarizine, a selective calcium channel blocker, and domperidone, a peripheral dopamine receptor antagonist and antiemetic. The combination is primarily indicated for the prophylactic treatment of migraine headaches, particularly to address both the neurological vascular triggers of migraines and the associated gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Flunarizine acts by inhibiting calcium influx into neuronal and vascular smooth muscle cells, thereby preventing the loss of vascular tone and subsequent dilation of cerebral blood vessels that contribute to migraine pain. Domperidone acts as an antagonist at dopamine D2 and D3 receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) and the upper gastrointestinal tract, which enhances gastric motility and alleviates nausea and vomiting.
