Overview
Flunopazil is a small molecule dual inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) developed by Jiangsu Kanion Pharmaceutical for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. By inhibiting these enzymes, it prevents the degradation of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is often depleted in the brains of Alzheimer's patients, thereby potentially improving cognitive and behavioral symptoms. The drug is designed to offer improved efficacy or safety profiles compared to existing cholinesterase inhibitors like donepezil. It has been evaluated in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials in China.
