Fluocinolone acetonide + urea is a topical combination product containing a synthetic corticosteroid (fluocinolone acetonide) and a keratolytic/humectant agent (urea), used primarily for the treatment of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and other inflammatory skin disorders. Fluocinolone acetonide acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, altering gene transcription, reducing the production of pro-inflammatory mediators (such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes) via phospholipase A2 inhibition, and inducing annexin proteins. Urea improves skin hydration by breaking down keratin, which helps enhance drug penetration and reduces scaling. The combination targets both inflammation and hyperkeratosis commonly seen in chronic dermatoses[1][3][8].
