Fluocortin is a synthetic corticosteroid drug primarily used in the form of its ester, fluocortin butyl. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agent. Fluocortin butyl is available in Germany for nasal application to treat perennial rhinitis and in Italy (as Vaspit) for topical treatment of skin diseases such as dermatitis, eczema, erythema, first-degree burns, and insect bites. Its mechanism involves induction of lipocortin 1 expression, which inhibits phospholipase A2—thereby reducing the synthesis of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and prostacyclins[6][8]. Clinical studies have shown it to be effective and well-tolerated when applied topically with minimal systemic corticosteroid activity[6].
