Fluocortolone

Fluocortolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid used primarily as a moderately potent topical corticosteroid for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis. It is also indicated for hemorrhoids, anal fissures, dermatoses, and proctitis. Fluocortolone exerts its anti-inflammatory effects by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in target cells (primarily skin cells), forming a steroid-receptor complex that translocates into the nucleus and modulates gene expression. This process inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory proteins while promoting anti-inflammatory proteins, thereby reducing inflammation, itching (pruritus), redness, and pain. The drug can be administered topically or orally; after oral administration up to 15% may be systemically absorbed[1][2][4][5][6][8].
