fluocortolone caproate

Fluocortolone caproate is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid used primarily for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. It is indicated for the topical treatment of hemorrhoids, anal fissures, proctitis, and corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. The drug acts as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor (NR3C1), leading to suppression of inflammatory gene expression and reduction in the production of inflammatory mediators such as cytokines and chemokines. Fluocortolone caproate is often formulated as suppositories or ointments for rectal or topical use. It may be used alone or in combination with other agents such as local anesthetics (e.g., cinchocaine) or other corticosteroids (e.g., fluocortolone pivalate).
