Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fluor varnish with nanoparticles is an experimental dental formulation consisting of a commercial fluoride varnish (specifically Fluor Protector Varnish) combined with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) at a 0.1% wt concentration. Developed by the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, this topical formulation is designed to promote tooth remineralization and exert antimicrobial and cariostatic effects. The silver nanoparticles provide antibacterial activity against cariogenic pathogens such as *Streptococcus mutans* and *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, while the fluoride base promotes the formation of fluorapatite to remineralize enamel. It is being evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial for the prevention of dental caries and tooth remineralization in pediatric patients with Down syndrome (Trisomy 21).
