Overview

This drug is a monoclonal antibody specifically targeting carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a tumor marker commonly expressed in gastrointestinal tract cancers such as colorectal and gastric cancers. The antibody is conjugated with fluorescein, a fluorescent dye, enabling visualization of CEA-expressing cancer cells via fluorescence endoscopy or imaging techniques. The mechanism of action involves specific binding to CEA on tumor cells, allowing detection and localization of tumors during diagnostic procedures or image-guided surgery. It has been used primarily for in vivo detection of colorectal dysplasia and carcinoma by topical application during endoscopy and also studied for early-stage gastric cancer detection. The fluorescein label facilitates fluorescence excitation and emission that can be detected with specialized endoscopic equipment equipped with narrow-band filters.
