Overview
Fluorescein sodium 10% injection (500 mg) is a diagnostic fluorescent dye used in ophthalmology for fluorescein angiography and angioscopy of the retina and iris vasculature. Upon intravenous administration, the dye circulates through the ocular blood vessels, where it absorbs blue light (465–490 nm) and emits yellowish-green fluorescence (520–530 nm). This fluorescence is captured by a fundus camera to clearly demarcate and evaluate retinal and choroidal microvascular structures, aiding in the diagnosis and monitoring of ocular diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and macular telangiectasia.
