Fluoro-calcium-phosphosilicate (FCPS) is a fluoride-releasing bioactive glass used in dental applications, primarily for treating dentin hypersensitivity. It works through a 4-step mechanism: chemical bonding to dental structures, controlled dissolution releasing calcium, phosphate and fluoride ions, precipitation forming fluorapatite crystals, and sustained remineralization through prolonged fluoride release. FCPS differs from conventional calcium sodium phosphosilicate by the presence of CaF₂, higher phosphate content, and smaller average particle size. These properties allow it to form fluorapatite rather than hydroxyapatite, which is more resistant to acid attacks and provides more effective tubule occlusion.
