Drug intelligence / Profile preview
fluoro-exendin-4 (specifically [18F]fluoro-exendin-4 or [18F]F-dibenzocyclooctyne-exendin-4) is a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical peptide tracer developed by the Turku PET Centre (University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University). It is designed to target the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R), which is highly expressed on pancreatic beta cells. The tracer is utilized in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging for the non-invasive quantification of pancreatic beta-cell mass, the localization of insulinomas, the diagnosis of congenital hyperinsulinism, and the monitoring of stem cell-derived islet grafts. By utilizing a strain-promoted click chemistry synthesis strategy, the tracer achieves high specific activity and exhibits rapid renal clearance, reducing the radiation dose to the kidneys compared to radiometal-labeled exendin analogs.
