Overview
Fluoroazomycin arabinoside F-18 is a radiofluorinated 2-nitroimidazole derivative used as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent for detecting hypoxic tissue, particularly in tumors. Under hypoxic conditions, the compound is reduced to a reactive species that covalently binds to intracellular macromolecules, allowing for quantitative imaging of viable hypoxic cells. Compared to other tracers like 18F-misonidazole, it has improved pharmacokinetics with faster renal clearance and less accumulation in lipophilic tissues. It is under clinical investigation for use in various cancers including pancreatic ductal cancer, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, and rectal cancer[1][3][4][5][8].
