Overview

Fluorocoxib Q (FQ) is a targeted fluorescent imaging probe specifically designed to bind to the Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme. Developed as a derivative of the selective COX-2 inhibitor celecoxib, FQ is used to visualize tissues with high COX-2 expression, which is a hallmark of many cancers and inflammatory conditions. In the context of advanced drug delivery systems, FQ is often encapsulated in stimuli-responsive nanoparticles (such as ROS-sensitive micelles) to monitor the release and localization of therapeutic payloads in real-time. Upon reaching the tumor microenvironment, the probe is released and its fluorescence is activated, allowing for high-sensitivity optical detection of tumors, such as mammary carcinomas, and the assessment of drug delivery efficiency. Its high affinity for the COX-2 active site ensures specific retention in target tissues, making it a valuable tool for both diagnostic imaging and the study of drug delivery kinetics.
