Overview

Fluorofuranylnorprogesterone (FFNP), also known as fluorofuranylnorprogesterone F‑18 or 18F‑FFNP, is a radiolabeled small molecule used as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent. It is an investigational compound developed to assess the functional status of progesterone receptors in breast cancer. FFNP binds with high affinity to the progesterone receptor and enables noninvasive imaging of progesterone receptor expression and isoform distribution in tumors. This can help predict response to endocrine therapy in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer patients by measuring changes in progesterone receptor levels after estradiol challenge[1][5][8]. The agent has completed phase 2 clinical trials for diagnostic use in breast cancer[2].
