fluorometholone

Fluorometholone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid primarily used as an ophthalmic suspension to treat inflammation of the eye caused by surgery, injury, or other conditions. It acts by inhibiting the inflammatory response in ocular tissues such as the conjunctiva and cornea. The drug reduces swelling by suppressing immune system activity and limiting processes like edema formation, leukocyte migration, capillary dilation and proliferation, fibroblast proliferation, collagen deposition, and scar formation. Fluorometholone is available only with a prescription and is supplied under several brand names for topical ophthalmic use. Developed and manufactured by Allergan, fluorometholone exerts its effects by acting as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor.
