Overview

Fluoropaclitaxel (specifically, 4-[18F]fluoropaclitaxel or [18F]FPAC) is a radiolabeled derivative of paclitaxel in which the chemotherapeutic agent paclitaxel is labeled with the radioisotope fluorine-18. It is developed as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent to noninvasively study the biodistribution and tumor uptake of paclitaxel and to assess P-glycoprotein (P-gp)-mediated multidrug resistance in tumors. As a substrate for P-gp, it can help identify tumors with high efflux activity that may be resistant to taxane-based chemotherapy. Fluoropaclitaxel itself is not used therapeutically but as an imaging biomarker to predict response to chemotherapy and evaluate drug distribution in solid tumors[1][6][7].
