Overview

Fluorothiazinone is an original antibacterial drug developed by The Gamaleya National Research Center. It represents a new class of "non-traditional antibacterials" as defined by the WHO. Unlike conventional antibiotics, fluorothiazinone does not kill bacteria directly but instead inhibits their virulence by targeting the type III secretion system (T3SS) and flagellum, which are key virulence factors in a wide range of pathogenic bacteria. The drug is formulated as 300 mg tablets and has demonstrated efficacy in treating complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs) when used in combination with conventional antibiotics like Cefepime. Clinical trials have shown that fluorothiazinone in combination therapy reduces infection recurrence rates and has a favorable safety profile with no serious unexpected adverse events reported.
