Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FLT (18F) Synektik is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent developed by Synektik for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of malignant tumors. It is a radiolabeled analog of thymidine, specifically 3'-deoxy-3'-[18F]fluorothymidine. The mechanism of action involves its uptake by proliferating cells via the enzyme thymidine kinase 1 (TK1), which is highly expressed during the S-phase of the cell cycle. Unlike thymidine, FLT is not incorporated into DNA but is phosphorylated by TK1 and trapped within the cell, allowing for the visualization and quantification of cellular proliferation. This makes it a valuable tool for assessing tumor aggressiveness and monitoring early response to therapy in various cancers.
